This song is my tribute
to NetHack, a game which has sucked away
countless hours of my
life since the early 1990s.
It is a parody of “Pepper”
by the Butthole Surfers, a fatalistic ditty
about young
people meeting tragic ends. It reminded
me
of my endless dying in
NetHack, a game which never runs out of
cruel twists of fate. You will die hundreds of times over before
you
beat this game and ascend
to demigodhood. If you ever manage
to do that at all.
I wrote and performed
these lyrics, as comedy music/dementia/filking
is one of those things I
do. The arrangement is by the awesome
ShoEboX of Worm Quartet,
a star in the dementia music scene. It
is
featured on my second CD:
For Amusement Only, a collection of
geek-themed funny music.
I have made this song
available for non-commercial copying, sharing,
modification and performance,
under a Creative Commons attribution
license. It seemed only fair,
given all the free, open-source enjoyment
I have gotten out of this
wretched, wonderful game over the years.
